A Parish for Everyone
St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church is the largest parish church in the Diocese of Plymouth and serves as the seat of Bishop Mark O'Toole. Our parish is home to a vibrant and diverse Catholic community, bringing together people from more than 37 nationalities who worship, celebrate and support one another as one family in Christ.
Whether you're exploring faith, visiting the area or looking for a parish to call home, you'll always receive a warm welcome at St. Mary's.
Our Story
Early 1900s
The first St. Mary's Church was established near West Quay Road, on the site close to the original RNLI offices. The parish also honoured St. Philomena and was served by several French priests in its early years.
Today
St. Mary's continues to flourish as a welcoming parish serving people from many cultures and backgrounds.
Education
We enjoy close links with St. Mary's Catholic Primary School and St. Edward's RC/CE Secondary School, supporting young people in their faith journey.
1973
Our present church was opened, providing a larger home for a growing Catholic community in Poole.
Community
The parish also serves the wider community through chaplaincy, including the local Hospital Trust, where Deacon Declan McConville serves as Lead Chaplain.
2023
The parish celebrated the Golden Jubilee of the present church, giving thanks for fifty years of worship, community and service.
Our history continues to grow as new people become part of our parish family. We look forward to welcoming future generations to St. Mary's.
