St. Benedict - Patron of Europe
St Benedict – Patron of Europe
Feast Day: 11 July
On 11 July, the Church celebrates St Benedict, one of the most influential saints in Christian history and the Patron of Europe.
Born in the 5th century, St Benedict founded communities of prayer centred on a simple but profound way of life: seeking God through prayer, work and hospitality. His Rule, written over 1,500 years ago, continues to guide monasteries around the world today.
His famous motto, "Ora et Labora" ("Pray and Work"), reminds us that every part of our daily lives can become an offering to God.
As we celebrate his feast day, may St Benedict inspire us to seek peace, welcome others with kindness, and place Christ at the centre of all we do.
St Benedict, pray for us.
